What our guests have to say

About Still Water Retreat

THE HOME

This home was built on a property the Himschoot family found in 1982. They dreamed of having a property like this one, and were so excited when they actually bought the land. The home was constructed by the family themselves, as the Father was a contractor. They had help from many friends and family, and it was finally completed in the middle of 1984. They moved in and had their first family Christmas in the home that year. This home has had weddings, family gatherings, and so much more, which is why we felt it was significant to tell their story.

THE PROPERTY

The property was what attracted the original family into building a house. The pond was actually man-made, and dug for mining. The 100-year-old pond was at one time 12 feet deep, and now is currently closer to 5 or 6 feet deep. The property next door used to sell liquor during prohibition, and the location is a fifteen-minute walk from downtown Idaho Springs. This property is also just a few minutes away from the Indian Hot Springs, and an easy thirty-minute drive up the road to Loveland.

THE FAMILY

The Himschoot family found the property in 1982, and finished building the structure by 1984. At the time, the kids were 3, 5, & 7. Mary & her husband built this home with the goal of living in Colorado, but not just in the city. The town offered them a sense of community and a closeness to nature they didn’t have in any of their previous homes. The kids grew up here, and family gatherings were always happening in the Himschoot household.
